Who Makes Yeezy Sneakers: Everything You Need to Know

Who Makes Yeezy Sneakers: Everything You Need to Know

At this moment, Yeezys are the most sought-after sneakers in the world. In fact, last year, GQ voted Yeezys the most “influential sneaker of 2016.” With each release, Kanye West’s Yeezy sneakers Yeezy Boost Pirate Blacksell out online in minutes. And resellers put up pairs of Yeezys for thousands of dollars. If you’re new to the sneaker culture, you’re probably thinking: What’s the big deal with Yeezy Boost sneakers? Why are they so hyped? Or, even, who makes Yeezy sneakers? And where?

From their exclusiveness to their unique trendsetting design, the Yeezy Boost hype is something we haven’t seen since the first Air Jordan colorway came out. But the process of making these Yeezy Boost sneakers goes through several phases. And to appreciate the kicks you gotta know what they go through before landing in your hands. In fact, it’s that process, particularly that increases the demand for Yeezys so much.

Who Designs Yeezys?Yeezy Boost Sketch 2019

Yeezys refers to Adidas (or Nike) sneakers designed in collaboration with Kanye West. Originally, Kanye had partnered with Nike, but the rapper split with Nike in 2014 due to a royalty dispute and him wanting to have more creative control over the design. Yeezy is actually a nickname of Kanye’s and the name of his fashion brand which features apparel items, accessories, and footwear.

Since joining Adidas, Kanye has served as chief designer for the sneaker. This collaboration, for example, is different than most athlete/celebrity and shoe company partnerships, because West participates and even manages every part of the process. Kanye even shares sketches of upcoming Yeezys he’s planning on bringing to life. So yeah! You’re flexing a pair of sneakers that’s been in the head of the one and only Kanye West. Very Special!

But we have a feeling the man of the hour, Jon Wexler, will start to have a saying in Yeezy sneakers’ designs. Just about a week ago, Wexler was named General Manager of the Yeezy Business Unit at Adidas. And we’re welcoming him and his 13 years of experience with open arms.

Yeezy Boost Features

Sneakerheads know that when you buy Yeezys you’re actually investing in high-quality features and high-end design. Adidas Yeezy sneakers, for example, have always been praised for their unique design. Featuring one-of-a-kind primeknit uppers, extra comfortable soles, and Boost material for the cushioning. And aside form bold crazy Nikepatterns and bold, yet simple colorways, the Yeezys may be the most fashionable running shoe in the world. They’ve even inspired imitators. For example, Steve Madden’s Baldwin sneakers share a striking resemblance to the BOOST 350 line-up.

Since partnering with Adidas, the Yeezy sneakers’ design has become much more minimalistic. Nike Air Yeezy collaborations, for instance, like the ultra-rare Red Octobers, showcases so many features and shades of red but also showed such intricate design. The Boost 350 and Boost 750, on the other hand, release in more classic colorways, and a pared-down design aesthetic. This doesn’t mean we don’t get to have a pop of color every now and then, like the Semi Frozen Yellows, the Zebras, or the Yeezyreels.

Where Are They Manufactured? By Whom?Kanye West in China Yeezy Sneakers

Adidas manufactures Yeezy sneakers in their factories in China. And we’ve seen pictures of Kanye at Yeezy factories and in the airport on the way to check on the Yeezy production process.

And having a “Made in China” tag on Yeezy Boost sneakers, but not for too long. In a recent interview, Kanye West announced that he’s planning on moving Yeezy Sneakers’ production to the United States. This could result in an increase of the original retail prices of Yeezys.

But if that means getting more Yeezys, ones that actually look like the mockups, we’re happy to pay for the quick and high-quality service.

How Many Pairs of Yeezys Are Made?

Yeezy sneakers boxThe biggest and most controversial aspect of Yeezy boost sneakers is the stock level. How many pairs are dropping next? Will the resale value sink after a million pairs drop? How limited are the upcoming reflectives? So many questions go through your mind when you first know of a new drop.

And for what it’s worth, Yeezy sneakers have seen everything from a million pairs to a couple of thousand pairs per colorway. We’ve also seen some region-exclusive colorways, and reflective pairs so limited they got us feeling we’re friends and family. And while it’s not always possible to get an exact number of Yeezys dropping, there’s been plenty of leaks. Here are a few estimates from previous releases:

yeezy-boost-poster-1Yeezy Boost 750: Just 9,000 pairs were made available when the 750 initially launched, which was confirmed by a number of sources. And just 5,000 pairs of the black 750s were speculated to be available.

Yeezy Boost 350: The first installment of the 350’s lineup featured four colorways, including Turtle Dove, Moonrock, Oxford Tan, and Pirate Black. Kanye’s barber, for example, stated that 80,000 pairs of the Moonrock colorway were made available.

Yeezy Boost 350 v2: The update 350s were available in 6 colorways: Copper, green, red, as well as a red+black version, Core Black/Core White, and the super-exclusive white-black “Zebra” version. Some estimate that just 7,000 pairs of the Zebras.

How Many Models Are There? What Materials Are Used?

Boost 950 & 1050: Both the 950 and 1050 — the Yeezy duckboot models — feature a classic duckboot silhouette, with key Yeezy design details. The 950, for example, were made with rubber and ballistic nylon, and featured rounded laces and suede-trimmed eye stays. The updated 1050 added Gore-Tex waterproofing, a sock lining, and feature a sleeker silhouette.

The v2 release added a stripe, with SPLY-350 emblazoned on it, but kept many of the same features.

Boost 700, 700 V2, and 700 V3: First appearing in 2017, the Yeezy 700 was Kanye West’s first step into the world of big bulky boots. And the first experiment with the dad-shoes trend. Not to say this silhouette was not a success. It was ok. But our main concern is producing 3 versions of such a big shoe.

Adidas Yeezy 500: The second time Kanye opts for a bulky dad shoe. This time at a much cheaper price, and without the Boost soles. So you can only imagine how that would go. But nothing stops Kanye from releasing as many colorways as he desires. And so we have over a dozen Yeezy 500s to choose from.

Yeezy Boost 380: After years of waiting, the 3rd iteration of the 350s is here. But it’s not a V3, it’s rather a brand new shoe called Yeezy Boost 380. For now, we’ve only gotten 1 colorway of the Yeezy Boost 380 which was the Alien. But we had a look at the second, black, colorway possibly dropping in 2020.
