TBT: Air Yeezy Red October and Its Long Exciting History!

This week’s throwback is of kicks that are still fresh in our minds as if they dropped yesterday! Yeezy Red October sneakers actually marked the end of an era and the start of a new one. But that didn’t happen without some memorable incidents that revolve around that pair of kicks! Let’s go through the history of the Yeezy Red October and remember the good old days.
But if you prefer looking out for future Yeezys, better check out where you can cop the upcoming Yeezy Linen!

How It All Started

11 years ago, in 2009, Kanye signed his deal with Nike, and that was the start of the Yeezy brand! Two silhouettes were the products of this collaboration, Air Yeezy 1 and 2! The colorways were as follows: Air Yeezy 1 Zen Gray, Black/Pink, and Net/Tan while Air Yeezy 2 came in Black/Solar Red, Pure Platinum, and finally Red October.

Kanye wore the kicks and teased them on many occasions. Friends and Family, Celebrities, and athletes were spotted rocking the kicks. But no one in the industry was ever sure they’d make it to the public’s hands. This huge hype made the Yeezy Red October one of, if not THE, most awaited kicks in the history of the industry!

Yeezy Red October and the Release Date Saga

It’s 2013, and anticipation is killing sneakerheads around the world! Moreover, teasers here and there increased the hype to a stellar level. Kim teased the kicks on Instagram in May 2013 and Kanye appeared on SNL wearing the Yeezy Red October. But the best bit is not the hype, it’s the fact that somebody spread the rumor of a June 2013 release. This rumor prompted the Nike PR to say that the kicks are not dropping then!

However, it wasn’t all sunshine and daisies between Ye and the Swoosh. By the end of 2013, the Nike x Kanye partnership reached its end. The disagreement, according to Kanye, was the lack of creative freedom he so much longed for. After all, he’s a genius, and geniuses should have the freedom to create! Kanye went on to sign with Adidas, and the new era of Yeezys started! And the Adidas – Nike rivalry reached its peak!

Surprise Surprise!

The Nike Kanye breakup shattered sneakerheads’ dreams of owning a pair of Yeezy Red October. But just as people were starting to lose hope, Nike threw a bomb through twitter in February 2014 and released the Red Octobers online only!

11 minutes! It took 11 minutes for Yeezy Red October to sell out! And naturally, the stock number was very low. So the end of the partnership, the exclusivity, and the hype created a phenomenon like no other in the sneaker culture!

How Much Is a Pair of Yeezy Red October Worth?

The kicks retailed for $250 on February 9, 2014. But that’s not what matters. What actually matters is that 6 years later, the kicks actually resell for an average of $7,552! And unless Nike retros them, the value of Yeezy Red October will never dip. But, we’d be lying if we say we wouldn’t LOVE to get a Yeezy Red October restock!

Will There Be a Retro Though?

Well, according to Kanye’s latest interview, he’s all for the people! If people want Air Yeezys, give them Air Yeezys!

But will Nike actually release a retro of the infamous Yeezy Red October? We’ll leave that for time to decide! After all, we were out of hope regarding a Yeezy 750 restock, until the Yeezy deadstock event blessed us all.

In the meantime, check out last week’s throwback of the Galaxy Foamposites!
